Gwahaju literally means “summer-passing liquor.”

Like the Portuguese port wine and the Spanish sherry, gwahaju adds alcohol during fermentation, raising the alcohol level and storage quality.

Here are five gwahaju  for your summer!

Gwahaju On (ABV 18.5%)

Gwahaju On exudes a natural aroma from Hoengseong deodeok roots.

It is as strong as wine, with 18.5% alcohol content. But as you drink it, the fragrance of deodeok will touch your nose, and the liquor will go down your throat gently.

Gyeongseong Gwahaju (ABV 20%)

gives you the natural sweetness of rice without relying on chemical additives.

Once you hold it in your mouth, you will feel the delicate sweetness  and flowery fragrance.

Even Korean sool beginners will find it drinkable as this rice wine has very mild characteristic yakju flavors.

Cheonghon Gold (ABV 19.5%)

Cheonghon Gold is exquisitely sweet, sour, and smoothly drinkable, but also tastes fiery.

It has a soft aroma of flowers and fruits and is less sweet than other gwahaju

Boksoondoga Gwahaju (ABV 15%)

Boksoondoga Gwahaju is hand-crafted in each process. Its fermentation process turns sweet rice flavor and strong nuruk aroma into sweet Korean pear flavor and fresh fruit aroma.

You will feel the fresh taste and flavor of all the ingredients, and lovely acidity will boost your appetite.

Gimcheon Gwahaju (ABV 23%)

Gimcheon Gwahaju is made of Gimcheon’s clear spring water and rice.

Unlike ordinary gwahaju, it has almost no sweetness. Instead, a pleasantly bitter and fresh flavor will fill your mouth, making you feel refreshed after drinking it.
