In celebration of the 579th Hangul Day in 2025,
let us explore traditional Korean liquors with pure Korean names that reflect the beauty of Korean culture and craftsmanship.

Naru Saeng Makgeolli

Naru Saeng Makgeolli is a traditional unrefined rice wine (takju) whose name, “Naru”, is a pure Korean word meaning ferry or riverside.
Brewed exclusively with freshly harvested rice from the Seoul region without any artificial sweeteners, it is made simply from rice, water, and nuruk (traditional fermentation starter).
The liquor is noted for its naturally sweet rice aroma and smooth, creamy texture.
Its carbonation level varies with the storage temperature and duration, and the producer recommends enjoying the natural effervescence that develops at room temperature.
It complements spicy dishes such as tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes) and nakji-bokkeum (stir-fried octopus).
